Dustin Kovacvich

Dustin and his team of pro fishing guides are the premier exclusive wild salmon and steelhead outdoor adventure destination and the only lodge in North Western BC that can offer a different adventure every day, each time you come to the lodge. They have access to over 50 rivers and lakes, saltwater fishing, fly and conventional fishing, all species of salmon and trout, including outdoor adventure. They can organize adventure sport like mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, camping, off road motor cycle tours, skiing and snowmobiling.

Their guests stay at a "first class" fishing lodge

The Skeena River system may be the last pervasive wild salmon and steelhead fishery in the world; it’s well protected and will become a legacy for the clients of Dustin to enjoy for many years to come.

In 1983 Noel Gyger started a guiding service and magazine called BIG FISH COUNTRY. A very successful operation focused on catching the largest salmon using conventional fishing methods.

In 1987 Noel and friend, Cosmo Zavaglia started Northwest Fishing Guides and Lodge shortly there after. Noel and Cosmo established a reputation and grew the business over the next few years.

In 1997, Noel and his wife Gail purchased Cosmos’s share of the lodge. Both of them continued to grow the business. With hard work, dedication and a good team of fishing guides, the company was a success.

In November 2001 Noel and Gail retired and sold the business to Dustin and his partners.  Dustin and his team have amassed over 850 repeat clients from all over North America, Europe and Asia.

They have been featured on many sport fishing television shows with over 11 shows produced with Canadian Sport Fishing shown on The Outdoor Life Network and the Sports Network in Canada. In the USA we have been featured on ESPN’s Fly fishing the World with John Barrett and Steve Abel Reels.

Head Guide Dustin, an avid BC fisherman since the age of 2 and a former guide for Noel Gyger. Dustin is dedicated to offering the highest quality fishing adventure in Northwestern BC’s Skeena Region.

I am pleased to offer numerous fishing packages for each of the main seasons on the world-renowned Skeena River and its tributaries in 2010:

Spring Steelhead & Spring Chinook  March 14 to May 20, 2008

Classic northwest steelheading at its best.  They guide on many wild and scenic rivers filled with large, wild Steelhead.  Mid-way through the season, aggressive Spring Chinook begin to show and add an exciting dimension.  They have limited space during this popular season.

This is a great time for both fly (spey and single hand) and spin rods for BIG Steelhead on the Kalum, Lower Copper, Kitimat and main Skeena.  Here is a photo of the record 32-pound fish from the Kalum River.  Space is limited.  Secure your spot by contacting me today.

Chinook Fly Fishing  April 26 to August 6, 2008

Looking for big game fly fishing in  fresh water?  Like the challenge of hooking and landing big, sea-run fish?  If so, I have just the package for you.  The Skeena region offers the fly fisher prime opportunities to target chrome-bright, aggressive Chinook (King) Salmon in three seasons.

Trophy Chinook  July 13 to August 6, 2008

Trophy Chinook season in Northwestern British Columbia is when we do battle with the giants of the Skeena.  The rivers are full of massive Chinook (King) Salmon, which average as astounding 20 to 50-pounds.  Fish over 70-pounds are caught every year and there is even a chance at a Salmon over 100-pounds.  These fish are fresh from the sea and in peak condition.  They are chrome bright and extremely powerful.  Expect sore arms and hot thumbs!

Skeena Camp Package  July 13 to September 20, 2008

Simply put, Northwestern British Columbia's Skeena River is the Steelhead and Salmon superhighway.  In summer and fall the lower main channel Skeena hosts vast numbers of migrating Steelhead, chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Chums and Pinks headed for numerous upriver tributaries.  To take full advantage of this prolific fisher and offer a high-quality, high-value fishing adventure, Dustin and his team have developed an on-river Skeena Camp package.  Renowned rivers such as the Babine, Kispiox, Sustut, Bulkley, Morice, Copper (Zymoetz) and Kalum enter the Skeena above their camp and all fish bound for these rivers must pass directly in front of them before reaching their spawning grounds.  Only a day or two out of the ocean, at the peak of their size, strength and beauty, these are among the biggest and most aggressive Steelhead and Salmon on Earth.  To hook one of these fish on a fly in the broad, lower Skeena is to touch the heart of the wilderness - an experience not to be forgotten!

Summer Steelhead & Five Species of Pacific Salmon  August 6 to September 6, 2008

If you're after the ultimate Trout - the meanest, hottest, sea-lice covered, Monster Steelhead - you'll want to be on the lower Skeena and tributaries during this season.  These awesome fish average 8 to 15-pounds, 20-pounds is not uncommon, and a world record catch is not beyond imagination.  It's typical for even average fish to go on unstoppable runs, leaping all the way.  These ultra-chrome rockets have left many an angler with shaking hands and wanting more.  There is also the added bonus of being able to catch all five species of Pacific Salmon during this time.

Fall Steelhead & Trophy Coho  August 31 to October 25, 2008

This is the season that has made the Skeena justifiably famous.  Fish wild rivers for huge, aggressive Steelhead.  Their fall fish are surface-oriented and can readily be taken with waking and dry flies.  Skeena Coho (Silver) average 10-pounds, commonly reach 20-pounds, and world record 30-plus fish are always present.  They fish some of the most beautiful wilderness rivers in the world.  Towering, snow-capped mountains rising over 3000 feet above meandering streams surrounded in the orange, red and green of British Columbia's coastal autumn make for an experience that you'll never forget.  It doesn't get any better!

Early Winter Steelhead  October 26 to November 23, 2008

This is indeed a special season, a season of legendary fish and legendary anglers.  Non-steelheaders think it's insane to step out into a frost-covered morning and wade into a freezing , wild river.  We know better though.  Dustin and his team know pools full of large, Wild Steelhead awaiting any angler brave enough and prepared to face the elements.  A few casts.  A solid strike.  A savage battle and it all comes together as you look down on the shimmering, broad shoulders of a large buck Steelhead in the shallow water at your feet.  If this if what you live for, their Early Winter Steelhead season is for you.

Helicopter Fishing Options  April 20 to November 23, 2008

They offer many unique helicopter fishing options for the adventure-minded angler.  Helicopter allow the opportunity to fish untouched expanses of spectacular wilderness rivers that teem with Trophy Steelhead and Salmon.  Approximate cost for Helicopter is $2000 to $4000, depending on which rivers are fished.

I am sure you will enjoy your experience in the exclusive Skeena Valley fishery.

"Where every cast is an adventure!"

"Thanks for an unforgettable experience!  First Steelhead on a fly, what more can I say ... appreciate all the hard work!" - Peter McLeod, England

Randy Marshall

WELCOME to Terrace BC

I am honored to guide spin and fly-fishermen (beginner or expert), local or from around the world, on just about ALL of the northwest British Columbia's beautiful, wild rivers.  I guide for Steelhead, Salmon and Trout on many rivers.  Some of these waters are the "special" Classified Waters (CW) with limited rod-days for guiding.

Yes, that's me pictured with a beautiful, summer-run "wild" Skeena River Steelhead.  A very special fish "we" need to protect and save forever.  Catch em - give em a kiss and let em go!

Years ago, I was a client of Angling Guide (AG) Noel Gyger and was so impressed with his services (and fishing) I moved to Terrace from Abbotsford, BC with my family in 1996.  The rest is history...as they say.  I became an Assistant Angling Guide (AAG) for Noel and now have my own business.

I do not have a website as most of my business comes through references, word of mouth and "repeats".  I have a long reference list now.  I do not have a fishing lodge for meals and accommodation but could offer suggestions.  Book NOW as "prime-time" dates are limited.

My price for a day booking:

Includes:

- Transportation to and from the Terrace Airport

- Pick-up and drop-off from your accommodation (Terrace or Kitimat only)

- Licensed, insured angling guide for a minimum of 8 hours

- Jet Boat, Drift Boat or Raft

- Transportation to and from rivers

- Conventional rods, reels and terminal tackle

- A light lunch, snacks and beverages (bottled water, coffee and tea)

- Safety Equipment (Life Jackets, First Aid Kit, etc.)

Does not include:

- Fly rods, reels and flies (although suggestions will be made)

- Angling licenses

- Transportation from your residence to Terrace BC and return

- Hip waders, rain gear, warm clothing

"Where the fish run to you!"

Reference for Randy:

"Hi to all fisher friends around the world, since 1996 we know Noel Gyger and Randy Marshall and we would like to thank both of them for the great time we had out on the river together and that it will be even better in next years.

We have seen lots of wildlife, rivers and even the ocean.

Where ever I made a cast I caught fish...now isn't that something?

I by myself caught over the years more than 100 Steelhead and there was even one over 30 pounds.

All I know about fishing in BC I learned from Randy and due to Noel I have had the chance to fish the Copper and the Kalum more than once, so I wish both of them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and some more good years fishing together.  All the best to all fisher friend too." Guy and Astrid, Luxembourg

Andrew's lodge is located by the Kalum River with a spectacular mountain view.  The lodge provides accommodation for up to 8 guests.  Two acres of lawns and gardens surrounded by old growth forests makes this a truly unique setting.

BOOKING NOW for 2009 - Spring Steelhead Heli-Fishing

"Wild" Spring Steelhead Heli-Fishing Trip April/May

One of the many reasons Harper's Hideaway Report named Nimmo Bay Resort "Fishing Resort of the Year" for 1997 and 2004 is that Nimmo Bay provides a most spectacular and unique fishing experience.  They create memories and exceed expectations.  They have definitely put the "FLY" into fishing.  Let them take you beyond tradition and transcend the angling norm of fishing only one body of water.

Nimmo Bay's Steelhead fishery is stellar!  They have at their fingertips, six major classified waters of the BC central coast, plus many remote rivers of northern Vancouver Island.  Here, they angle for Steelhead which weigh in at 10 to 30-pounds.  Your helicopter accompanies you all day, throughout this Angling Odyssey.

2008 will see more spaces at Nimmo Bay for anglers seeking the elusive and magnificent Steelhead.  From April 17 to the 3rd of June, every Thursday evening, guests will arrive full of anticipation of the prospect of days spent hooking and releasing one of nature's truly great sport fish.  Each helicopter will have four anglers with two guides, leaving camp every morning to fly over 30,000 square miles fishing of prime Vancouver Island and Mainland fishing rivers for Steelhead, Dolly Varden Char, Rainbow and Cutthroat trout.

"Even those returning to Nimmo Bay for second or third time are... overwhelmed by the sheer magnificence of the location and hospitality."  John Howarth (Ret), Bombardier Aerospace

BOOKING NOW for 2009 - Fall Chinook and Coho Heli-Fishing

Special trip for group of four.  They will have their own helicopter with 2 guides, 1 for every two anglers.

You will have your own private helicopter, your own guide with a friend, and unlimited access to some of BC's fabulous wilderness rivers, both classified and un-classified.  A professional guide will accompany 2 anglers, as the rivers are fished from top to bottom.  Your pilot considers mountains as mere hurdles, as you move from on paradise to another in a blink of an eye.  And at the end of the day you will return to a hot tub, a massage, a coastal feast and sleep that is best described as "the best ever".
